Wart’s Revenge –
Famous Grouse:-   results
Clowne Half Marathon:-   results . Some familiar names, but you’ll have to search for yourself….
Kirkbymoor results  over near Barrow. Mike 6th and Martin Smith 41st.

Carshare’s Football Correspondent sends  this link  – the worst goal miss of all time?

Vets Cross Country:- A mention for this, as all is quiet. Rather than clash with local clubs, DPFR haven’t put out an official cross-country team for some time. Several runners happily compete for their other clubs, not a problem. This might be worth noting:-
      Yorkshire Veterans Cross Country Championships 2010
      Saturday 6th February 2010

      Graves Park, Sheffield
  Any one 35 and over can take part and prizes are in 5 year increments O/35, O/40, O/45, O/50, O/55, O/60, O/65, O/70. There are also Team Competitions, so maybe worth taking steps to get this on the list. If called upon, Carshare may be making a return to Sheffield in the Ilkley vest…..

DT – worth reading the Comments about cross-country…..it all needs most cautious consideration. Some clarification there from Gavin – safest procedure at present is to run for your “other” club.

Weekend 21st/22nd November 2009

Tour of Pendle. results. It could have been much worse. For me the rain set in up that last climb, leaving it cold and wet across the top and down to the final lanes. Heavy conditions. A slightly longer course than usual, trying to avoid erosion problems. Years ago there were effectively no paths on those later steep descents, now it’s a beaten track, so like many other races us fell runners might be contributing to the problem?
A very strong travelling turnout, and a very large field. People losing tags don’t help the organiser, so apologies from me, no idea where mine went.
Clayton have always put on a good race, this cost £5, a T-shirt thrown in for free, and piles of prizes in every category. Jon Morgan 2nd, Karen 1st. 2nd Team. A special mention for the 2nd V60 prize winner, who, as organiser, forfeited his prize. Typical of the correct way Clayton go about things.

Some pictures

 Rivock Edgeresults. It stayed dry, so along the canal, fields, bogs, tussocks and a bit of fell. Back down the dark, dark woods and tussocks, bogs, field and canal. Didn’t stay for the results, but a touch of raiding from Deep South – Lewis (Clowne) was 1st and Gavin 9th (1st V45). Don’t think I was last, but not far off.

Calderdale Recce:- We had a trot along Leg 5 after Rivock, extremely wet and heavy. So I’m hoping that Gavin will commandeer this Leg for some good years.
  Leg 1 Recce:- Karen e-mail  is “quite keen to recce Leg 1 next weekend sometime. Does any other team want to meet up. . As usual would be good to fill a car and if anyone else wants to recce their leg then am sure we could organise sharing.
DT – It will be a safe follow presumably, but it helps to know how much effort to put in for the different parts of the Leg.
  Does anyone know if there are any maps anywhere? The Relay website has route descriptions, and a map may well be compulsory kit.

Worrying Trends:-
Carshare notes with interest the recent rise in DPFR efficiency. A new format website, a class edition of DP News, and now Willy has broken with tradition and declared the Calderdale “B” team, three weeks in advance – even getting round to travelling arrangements. What will happen to our traditional “Call in the Saturday Night”?
Will the next step be regular Committee meetings  – or a Road Selection Policy?. I’m thinking the real test will come at this year’s Crashout, where maybe there could be numbers provided, a signing in form and even a kit check?

Calderdale “B” Team:-
Leg 1 (9.8m; circa 1hr25mins) -    Willy Kitchen + Greg Rimmer (reg. 7 to 7.45am; start 8am);
Leg 2 (8.46m; circa 1hr15mins) -  Mark Evans + Jeff Marshall (reg. 8 to 9am; est. start 9.25am);
Leg 3 (4.8m; circa 45mins) -        Ashley Kay + Paul Keen (reg. 9 to 10.30am; est. start 10.40am);
Leg 4 (9.36m; circa 1hr20mins) -  Martin Stocks + Ian Winterburn (reg. 10 to 11.30am; est. start 11.25am)
Leg 5 (7.55m; circa 1hr5mins) -    Andy Moore + Gavin Williams (reg. 11 to 12.30pm; est. start 12.45pm)
Leg 6 (10m; circa 1hr10mins) -     Andy Beanland + Mark Salkild (reg. 12 to 13.30pm; est. start 13.50pm)
Reserves:- Mike Bourne : Rob Cole : Richard Hakes : Rob Moore : Dave Tait (hoping not to be needed…)

DT – can’t stress enough the importance of knowing where your Leg goes. Recce? the Calderdale Website has route descriptions, maybe other clubs as well?
Calderdale Travel:- Always complicated, but it always seems to work out. Worth looking who else is on the same Leg from other teams, to join up with. Or travel with adjacent Leg runners.
Please can anyone help Karen get to Leg 1 Ladies…   e-mail

Ireland 2010:- It’s far off, I know – Saturday 10th April. VAT goes up from January 1st .The cheap flights are available, so well worth getting in there early. Any Ireland Championship race is superb, and if it goes from the Silent Valley, (Mournes, Newcastle) -  it must be a classic. Never mind the race , the whole weekend is excellent.
Who flies from where, etc

Phil, Matt, Lloyd, Jackie and Karen, DT and VT, Roy Gibson, Dave Taylorhave booked flights. Manchester works well, Leeds/Bradford is good (Flybe is cheaper than Jet2)  , also Robin Hood Doncaster,  Liverpool and East Midlands can be used, and several other ideas are available.
Car Hire:- . – I’ve booked with Budget. Whoever you book with, going direct to their website may well be cheaped than one of these comparison sites….Budget was.
10 places have been booked for the Youth Hostel – so contact Phil.
phil.winskill
-  Es Tresidder” email is hoping to do Ireland next year.  I’d like to get there without flying though. I’m looking to book ferries as soon as possible and would like to fill a car. “

‘Top of the Rock’ Gibraltar Road Race . Steve Matthews sends:- “Blatant self publicity I know, but I won this on 17th Oct 2009. In my brown vest of course. Being in Gib meant missing the BG dinner, but The Force was clearly still with me and I just kept thinking how easy it was compared to ascending Yewbarrow. I was about 2 minutes ahead of the nearest contender out of a field of 30+ runners who assembled at the Naval Dockyard Gates at a dark 06:30am to compete over the 2.4 mile, 1000′ ascent course. Nobody took any photos of me, however I attach a photo of Gib (nice rock, isn’t it) and an attractive picture of one Barbary Ape eating fleas off another Barbary Ape close to where the race finished .”

Club Championships

Penmaenmawr – results  Might well have been wet and windy? John Hunt – 5th (1st V40) and Rob Hutton 51st.

Dunnerdale
–  results  with Lloyd our only runner, 2nd and six seconds behind Tom Addison.

For Sale (anything goes on Carshare…):- "MOUNTAIN BIKE FOR SALE – my bike was stolen and insurers bought me a new one when I\’d rather have the money… It’s a brand new black 17inch front suspension Specialised Rockhopper SL 2010 model with bottle and cage, still in the box with receipts and warranty, RRP £710.  I’m hoping to get £550 for it. Call Jon Coe, 01142 353889 if interested, or jon_coe

Boulsworthresults. A right good race. Quietly put on by Wharfedale, another club with an aversion to road running. A lane outrun to open fell, then tussocks, grass, bogs, to CP1. More of the same across to CP2, then secret lines back home. DPFR would have thrived on this, but quite too much of a trip over.

Weekend 7th/8th November 2009

Friday, November 6th, 2009
 Calderdale Relay:- Please, please will hopeful runners contact team captains to help start sorting out. We too often come close on this, and if everyone can be available, no reason why we can’t win them. A most grateful offer from Willy to help with  the “B” Team. We have so many good, dependable runners who won’t make the main teams, so there should be a very strong “B” Team on the cards. It’s a good event to be involved with – 6 paired legs. Well worth potential runners in each category trying to pair up…Please contact Willy w.kitchen  ASAP if you’re wanting a run – it could be a very good team. (I’m desperately hoping to be made redundant…but will be there supporting)

Totley Series:- "The results for the Totley 2009 series have been published on their website:

 Roaches –  results

roaches Carshare’s spies have detected the new, advanced method of descending…more photos.

Leg it Round Lathkill: Trevor Milner excels with:- “a fast run down a road, along a river, up a bank across some muddy fields down a road, cross some more fields, down the river, up a road and across fields again. A worthy event with a good spread of food with money going to’ Children in Need”. “Apart from Es winning, Nick got v40, Mark v50 and Joan also fv50 1st prizes “.

Cop Hill  – tracks, muddy fields, two laps of somewhere near Meltham. A good race if you’re nearby. The start was 10.30am, but a very moving minute’s Remembrance silence was held before we set off. video.
