Carshare

September 30th, 2007

Please tell me if you’re travelling to an event - don’t go by yourself - people will fill up a car if they know there’s a lift going - some of the away races are only viable with a full car. email Phone - 01943 464032.

New items will appear at the top of the page, if you are looking for something specific the Search facility seems to work well…

N.B. There is no need to Log in to post a comment.

Carshare has shut down this Tuesday morning, till Thursday night. Two nights in Keswick, with a Borrowdale Trot on the Wednesday. Just let me know if there are any specific bits you want checking out….

Snowdon Entry

July 22nd, 2008

John Hunt is desperately looking for an entry to the Snowdon race. Email him at email if you can help.

Weekend 26th/27th July

July 21st, 2008

Carshare is off to Keswick now - so shutting down and re-open Thursday night. Anything important, please send to the Webmaster…

Lots of everything, everywhere.

Saturday:- Snowdon : Pendle Cloughs - (in Fellrunner, a change from Kieran’s Tour) :
Sunday:- Gritstone Tryal : and if you’re up our way, Round Hill, a good moorland course.

And some local midweek classics…..

Borrowdale:- I’ll stay a couple of nights in Keswick this week, and hope for good weather to have a trot round. Then just send through for the Route Notes, any precious lines can remain internal….
Substitutions:- “Where a runner has had his or her entry for the Race accepted and does not wish to run in the race, then another runner may take the place of the original runner in the Race subject to demonstrating appropriate experience. In all such cases a Substitution Form must be completed at Race Registration on 2nd August.”   So please let me know if you have a spare place available - or if you’d like to take up someone’s place. Presumably not restricted to inter-clubs?

I know  Mark Harvey (see Comments) is looking for an entry….

Week from 19th/20th July

July 14th, 2008

Kentmere Results:-  A marvellous mass travelling turnout, full cars in plenty - the only way to be doing things. Keep the sharing going! Not a troubled start, soon away up the lane, and up to the ridge seemed to go at the right pace. No problems route finding, though it would be nasty in the clag. Lots of runnable stuff, as an AM course it doesn’t get much better.
So see you all at Borrowdale.
I’ll update all this once the proper results come out. Please help out if you find them anywhere…

Lakeland Classic Individual results  ….after Wasdale
Team Results:-   First ……Is this the year?

Richard Snowden’s BG:- “Despite grotty weather and a dodgy stomach I got round in 22hrs 46mins, - finished 7.16am Sunday.
The hardest but one of the most enjoyable things I’ve done. A great support team, all from Totley AC - and I even had Don “I dont run”
Longley dragging me along at the finish! Mark Wilson did 2 legs with me and Mark Buskwood got me over Broad Stand - which resembled a waterfall!” So many congratulations to Richard, and everyone involved.

Great Hucklow Results:-

Hathersage Hilly Triathlon:-  a results link , and gossip, would be appreciated if anyone can help…

Midweek:- seems quieter, Shining Tor,  and Back Tor and Beyond.

Week from 12th/13th July

July 10th, 2008

Bamford Results:- they’ll be on DPFR results gradually, thanks to Steve Matthews for the finding.

Sheldon Results

Trunce (6):-  - we live in hopes that results may appear ?

Wasdale Photos-  the full set from Martin are now on DPFR photos, etc. Envious? then be there next year….

Austria - Zugspitze Race. Not such good running conditions over in Austria. “Don’t know if you’ve heard anything about the race up the Zugspitze. 16km long, 2100m climb to the top of the mountain (2962m). There were 600 runners, some in shorts and vest, who ended up running in 10cm of snow. Several people collapsed from the cold and exhaustion, and two died. The German Police/CPS are now looking at the deaths.”
These photos  seem to suggest that no kit was asked for……

Charlesworth Results:- with Rich Patton 5th - 22.15, and the 1st V70 for Barry - 39.07
Broomhead Chase Results:- two wins for Nick in the Triple Series, I await the Trunce news?????

Peak Forest:- Pete Tapping helps out, as usual..”Plenty of us there. Dry and bright as usual. 29 runners from Serpentine club of London - in bright red shirts - on an away weekend,  Mick Stenton won,  I think Ron was 1st V50 (and about 5th).  People were talking to the organiser about posting the results, so we may see them soon.”

Thurlstone Results:-   with Nick Swift home first.

Holme Moss Results:-  Trevor Milner sends:-Blue sky and open moorland is what it’s all about for the 21st Holme Moss, slightly longer than usual. The cricket club start misses the initial climb from the reservoir but the finish has a climb and another mile to get back to the pavilion. Everyone received a Holmfirth centenary T shirt and as usual sandwiches, cake and tea, loads of prizes, 1st 10 places, 1st & 2nd 5yr vet, all for a fiver - excellent value and with beer on sale what more can you ask, just how it should be done! Prize takers; Bob Johnston 7th man Home, Richard Hopkinson 2nd V60, Chris Radcliffe 2nd V65, Dark Peak 3rd team. I have your beer Bob, so email me and Rob Little has the team beer. This beer has an invisible time lock which may be activated by a sudden thirst so claim your prize soon. 145 starters 133 finishers.”
DT - a pity to miss out on this, the perfect example of how to put on a fell race..

Wasdale Results:-  Another prestigious First Team Prize - the first time DPFR have ever won Wasdale? - following on from Ennerdale and Skiddaw. Dry and clear all the way round, wet in the Seatallan bogs due to the heavy rain, but at least the streams were full and no shortage of water. All that’s needed is to pile it on after Sty Head, but for most of us that’s where the tiredness sets in. Hot food and cakes included at the finish, it’s the place to be as a test of real fell running - at it’s very best.
John, Joe, Mike and Janet took the team prize, DT and Mick Cochrane brought home the V60’s, Nicky - 2nd LV40.
The Ladies race was a right ding-dong, by all accounts, with Janet and Jackie close throughout, until a truce was declared somewhere and they finished together - both 7mins better than Jackie’s previous record. As ever, full praise to the excellent CFR organisation and marshalling.
Lakeland Classics - after 2 Superlongs - looks like Janet, Matt, Nicky and Mick Cochrane have finished all three Superlongs - superb efforts - and  several more of us just need one of Borrowdale, Langdale, Three Shires to complete the Series, and we might be nto 1st for the Team Prize. into 1st for the Team Prize…

Pillar to GableMartin Stocks has kept the camera going throughout the race, and a completely superb set of photos are on DPFR photos. This just shows the appeal of Wasdale running, from Pillar, we skirt Kirk Fell, and head for Gable.

Week from 5th/6th July

July 4th, 2008

Hathersage Results:-  For me a pleasant trip over familiar hills, a good event. All clear with the dentist, so see what midweek races are on in 6 months time - some hope!

Stirton:- (near Skipton). In the Wednesday night rain. A good, hard enough little course. A different approach to prizes - none. But everyone gets a bottle of beer and bar of chocolate, Seems fine to me!

Black Rocks Results:
Wharfedale TTT.
Peakers Stroll

Summer Series (7) - Broomhead.  A win for Phil Crowson. Next is Rimmer’s Round,  Monday 21st July.

Skiddaw Results:- An important 1st Team, in raiding territory…(Phil, Jon, Rich P). A fortunate weather window let us up in warm, moist clagged conditions. No trouble for most, though one of our carload ventured near the town centre as a finishing variant…The route hasn’t changed much since Championship year, just that the climb goes on longer and the path down is just as horrible. Loads of free tea and cake, and a welcome initiative from the excellent  Keswick organisers - due to the increased entry, they put extra prizes into envelopes. A simple solution for giving more rewards to the participants.

Saunders MM Results   You’ll need to look through to find it all, but Kirsty and Simon were first in their class.

Tragedy on Kinder:-   Sad to see this on the FRA Forum, “Don’t know if anyone has already heard about this but yesterday a lone fellrunner had a heart attack and died while running on Kinder. A walker found him and raised the alarm”.
DT - there but for fortune……

Blackstone Edge Video:-   everyone sloshing through that first swamp (a bit of fiddling gets it on full screen….)

Week from 28th/29th June

July 4th, 2008

Grindleford : Results have been chased down by Jon, many thanks.
Hope Results:-

Bakewell Pudding Race Results

Parwich:- “A couple of Dark Peakers spotted at this long-running low-key (3.25 mile) event which incorporates a steep hill climb in the first mile, then lot’s of easy downhill running on road and tracks.  Competitors doused and cooled by a cloudburst at the start.  David Harrison (DPFR) carried off the Russell Trophy for first vet in 20:40 (4th overall), passing me (DT - Martin Stocks) on the downhill (5th in 20:50). “
“The other DPFR vest present belonged to Simon Pape (23rd in 23.12)”   photos.

Winster :- Bright sunny evening for this low key race from the centre of Winster village. Much more road and track than green and seems to go up far more than down.
1 Josh MOODY               Matlock  25:02
6 David HARRISON         27:24
15 Andrew MOORE         28.29
20 Trevor MILNER           30:35
42 Pete TAPPING           34:28  (thanks, Pete)

Up Our Way:- Danefield Relay was good - nothing like this in the Peak? Three laps, about 3mile a lap, most people roll up at registration and ask around to sort out teams. Could be done from Langsett?
Pete mentions Winster, where the locals blast off down the road. Last night was Silsden Murder Mile - (similar to William Hill from Grindleford??) . All line up together, loads and loads of children, and slog up this hill for a mile. Great atmosphere, and a longer scenic jog round to the start afterwards.

Summer Series:- Whinstone Whiz   seems like another good night, with Phil Crowson back first. .
Glaramara Results:- with Mike an impressive 3rd….51:44 mins
Langstrath Results:- and now 4th, ….41:55mins.
Blackstone Edge Results:-   They’d tried hard with the event, easy registration etc. We sank in the swamp on the way out, and sank in it once more on the return. Shoes fastened tight to avoid getting eaten by the Swamp Monster. Points scored in all the Men’s teams, keeping things in contention. Those who left early missed the prize giving - you missed out there! In our car one of us had a hosepipe, and fortunately someone else had the nozzle to make it work…..But £4 for the race - full praise to the organisers.

Tideswell :- Just what’s needed, from Trevor Milner:-    “The rain stopped on cue for the well-marshalled  energetic dash round Tideswell dale and Millers dale taking in Litton Mill but trying to avoid the polished limestone on the descents [some didn't]. Team Taggart,  Mick Stenton and Pippa Wilkie lifted the senior and V40 male and female earthenware prizes, followed by a couple of beers, a top way to finish the working week.”

Whaley Waltz:- Results, report etc in DP Results, so thanks, Andy for all this.

Wetton and Manifold 10km:- Martin Stocks sends:- “Down in the soft South, the Wetton and Manifold 10K was run yesterday.
Didn’t see any Dark Peakers (it’s a long way down South).  Torrential rain from the off - almost caused a riot at the start whilst the organiser insisted on giving us detailed instructions! (including advising us to walk over the cattle grid!  Health & Safety!)  The ‘murder’ mile was made less arduous after the cooling rain (but no less steep).  Results not yet published, but I’m pretty sure that SMAC took first 2 looking at race photos:  (I’m P2  and P36 - #270).

In distant lands, Switzerland, it’s the European Uphill Masters, not sure if anyone is involved. But a reminder of the World Uphill Masters, Czech Republic, on Saturday 6th September. Fly to Prague - the rest can be done by train, but easier to share a car.

Orienteering Help needed:- Steve Matthews asks:- “I’ve been asked to run a mini orienteering course for a local school, and I was wondering if anyone had half a dozen kites and punches they could lend me for a couple of weeks? If anyone is able to help out could they  email in the first instance. Thanks.”
