Andy Harmer has graciously agreed to organise; the race will be run from Fairholmes. Full route:

  • Start/finish at cars in lower car park at Fairholmes.
  • CP1 gate post/wall – left of main path - 182911
  • CP2 Cogmans cabin - 185922
  • CP3 at Back tor trig [touch it] - 198910
  • CP4 wall corner top end [West] of small wood - 182903

Expected winning time 55 minutes.

N.B. Track up Abbey brook to Sheepfold Clough is out of bounds, as the RO thinks it is not aesthetically pleasing and it might be quicker for whippets; other tracks are permissible "if you must". Andy

Full kit, bivvy bag & mobile phone all recommended. Members new to wartin' are strongly encouraged to read the winter runs web page link before coming along.

Sat 4th Feb 2017 9:30amDPFR raceMargery Hill

RO Andy Harmer. This is a long early season winter classic first run in 1985. It's highly recommended, very challenging (particularly in adverse weather conditions) and unmarshalled. There is only one unambiguous hazard - Abbey Brook - which can be a trickle or a torrent. If in doubt do not cross. Full FRA kit as a minimum, but add extra layers according to conditions - and come prepared to utilise map, compass and whistle as appropriate. All runners must sign in at the start and declared themselves at the finish, even if they've dropped out mid-race. If you hit trouble on the course, generally best to head west for the reservoir path.

There are three starts: 8.50am for the increasingly infirm; 9.10 am for the middle of the pack (defined, by the RO, as nobody faster than the Hawley and Holmeses of this world) and 9.30am for everybody else.

Start/finish top car park Fairholmes.

Sat 25th Feb 2017 11:00amDPFR raceNot the Nationals

Note slightly later start time. A real quirk of DP race engineering, the club's very own homage to X-country comprises two laps of a flour-marked circuit through woodland, fields, tracks and the occasional allotment. Starts in the Rivelin Valley at the 'rather scratty ... now dead' sycamore roughly to the north and below the path down from the bend in Long Lane. Having discovered how vastly improved the Rivelin Hotel is at last year's Rivelin Skyline, the RO (Simon Bacsich) has determined we will adjourn to the RH afterwards, so you may want to park in their carpark before trotting over to the start (allow 10 mins). They were doing a remarkably thrifty two roast dinners for a fiver deal last November, so if anyone wants to go halves with the Calendar ...

Fri 25th Aug 2017 7:00pmOtherThornbridge Weekend

Annual club camping weekend at Thornbridge Hall for all the family, Friday evening to Sunday pm ... and in the calendar fully eighteen months in advance, thereby indicating the hyper-efficiency of the new regime (if not of its tractors).

Expect the usual fun and games including Ashford-in-the-Water fell race (finishing in-the-water); kids fell race; Friday night something or other; cake & cava in the Sat late afternoon sunshine (not guaranteed); perhaps an impromptu EGM to spice things up a little (again, not guaranteed); BBQ Sat night (bring something to blacken, and an instrument for entertainment if you aspire to such things); may be some three-legged orienteering; kids & big kids cyclo-cross race; plus plenty of opportunities to cycle on the Monsal trail, run off your hangover on Longstone Edge on the Sunday morning, or just hang out on the campsite.

All welcome, especially new members, and kids and partners particularly welcome. Surprising though it may seem, many have come away reporting themselves very satisfied with their DP 'full immersion' experience. The facilities are remarkably sophisticated for a DP event, including 'luxury' industrial kitchen, hot showers and loads of room to run around outside and in. Costs something like £10 per adult per night/day and £5 for kids (under 5s go free), but organisers Bronwen and Tim Ray should be able to reveal all in time.

SK198710
Sat 26th Aug 2017 11:00amDPFR raceThornbridge

Part of the club's annual Thornbridge weekend, but you don't need to be camping to pitch up. The classic Ashford-on-the-water route, provided always that sufficient numbers of entrants can remember it, culminating with a compulsory dip in the water at the finish. Some kind of kids race is also likely from the campsite in the afternoon, should you wish to make a day of it with the family (but haven't the heart to commit them to the full overnight extravaganza).

Sat 7th Dec 2024 9:30amDPFR raceNorth Grain There and Back

Graham Berry's one-off 70th birthday race was such a gem that the webmaster and calendar agreed in the pub immediately following that we cannot let Graham's 80th pass without a repeat running.  With a winning time on a fine day in December 2014 of 2hrs 15mins, and some stalwarts taking over 3 hours, the 9am start certainly needs retaining for the increasingly more mature.  As to other arrangements - all in good time, folks, all in good time.
