DPFR race57A

The idea is to take a bus from Sheffield bus station to Dunford Bridge junction on the Woodhead and from there navigate ourselves to Edale from where we will catch the train back to Sheffield. The trip will take you through the heart of the remoter parts of the Dark Peak and is meant to be a tough(ish), mountain solo day out. The distance is about 13 miles or so over largely pathless terrain. Gavin got to the tea shack first last time in over 4 hours. The route is one way from Dunford Bridge junction to Edale. People should be aware there is no support and they will have to take sole responsibility for their own safety.

There will be no kit checks but entrants are “advised” to have full body cover, full waterproofs, food (including spare) and a survival bag in case of an accident to anybody. You will also need dry gear to change into at the end. Navigation skills and your own maps will be required. Prior plans for route choice and escape routes are a good idea perhaps. Those of us who are not confident about route finding across this terrain should team up with others or think again! I am quite happy to run with people who are new to the club or not confident of making the trip alone so please get in touch if need be on this.

People will need to carry money for the train fare back from Edale and for tea and coffee and scran at the café. Any queries should be directed to Tom Westgate. I suspect you will be part of a select group as in the past we have had a maximum field of 10 !! – less is more?

Your trip starts once you are on the bus. You can catch the bus anywhere en-route.
