RO Andy Harmer. This is a long early season winter classic first run in 1985. It's highly recommended, very challenging (particularly in adverse weather conditions) and unmarshalled. There is only one unambiguous hazard - Abbey Brook - which can be a trickle or a torrent. If in doubt do not cross. Full FRA kit as a minimum, but add extra layers according to conditions - and come prepared to utilise map, compass and whistle as appropriate. All runners must sign in at the start and declare themselves at the finish, even if they've dropped out mid-race. If you hit trouble on the course, generally best to head west for the reservoir path.
There are three starts: 8.45am for the increasingly infirm ; 9.00 am for the middle of the pack (defined, by the RO, as nobody faster than the Hawley and Holmeses of this world) and 9.30am for everybody else.
Start/finish top car park Fairholmes.
