Patton and Nolan productions are proud to present the Dark Peak club champs 2017.
Lewis has already posted the start times as a separate news item.
The start and finish this year will be on the bottom of the old track up to Sir William Hill (as the tarmac road from Grindleford turns sharply left to head to Eyam). The course will take you in to Bretton Clough (twice), over and around Offerton and Abney Moors before ending with a climb up to Sir William Hill trig point and dash back down the track to the finish. It's been extremely hard to get the permissions so compromises have had to be made on route choice but we think you will still enjoy it and it will be a challenging race (17.6km, 625m climb).
The majority of the route is on public rights of way with some open access land. There are however a lot of definite no-go areas and these are clearly marked on the map as out of bounds (purple hashed shading). Where necessary, we have taped some of the route at the request of the landowners (for example passing through Oaks Farm on route to control 3 on Smelting Hill). Please DO NOT stray off the route as this may jeapodise the running of future events in the area and will certainly result in an immediate nomination for the Pertex award…….
Timing will be done using Racetek timing chips (as used by the Grindleford Gallop and kindly loaned by the Grindleford School PTA). To spice life up a little, the penultimate leg from Stoke Ford to Sir William Hill will be a timed section with a prize for the fastest Man and Woman so make sure you hold something back for the last climb!
Whilst there is reasonable amount of parking on the old track, we would like to minimise the environmental impact so please ensure that you (1) carshare to the race, and (2) utilise the nearest public conveniences (Eyam car park- see map below) beforehand.
There will be a £2 entry fee / per competitor (£3 if you do not carshare) and please don't use this as an opportunity to offload all your old £1 coins from your piggy banks……… After race drinks will be in the Sir William Hill pub (postcode S32 2HS) in Grindleford (soup and chips also available – please email Mike Nolan (email if you want soup and chips).

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow,
