At the centre of this photograph is the man who created Dark Peak Fell Runners, surrounded by club members who had gathered to run his birthday ‘Three Stones Race’ and to pay tribute to him for all he had achieved.
Look slightly down from Chris and to your left, and you will see his wife Di sitting just behind Ann, with the hirsuit Messrs Swindells and Small to one side, and an elegant, athletic and muscular fell runner’s leg to the other.
On Wednesday, July 25th, Di will rejoin us at The Sportsman, where we will run the race again and then gather in the pub afterwards to celebrate Chris’s life.
All club members are welcome, and Di would love to share memories with friends old and new. Please spread the word, so that we can reunite as many people as possible from the old photograph and add lots of new faces, (and perhaps reconstruct it?).
Ken Jones has kindly agreed to be race organiser for the evening, and to bring his variant Stones Race back to the pub so that we can explore the original route anew, (the route being Headstone, Buck Stone and Cowper Stone in any order, starting and finishing outside the club hut).
There will be two start times, with the aim of getting everyone back in good time to allow a decent session afterwards: 6:15 for the trained, tutored tortoises; 6:45 for the headless hurrying hares.
