A most successful brown-vested raid into the heart of mid(ish)-Wales for this enjoyable straight up (with a few false summits) and straight down again blast along the Aran Fawddwy ridge line. Notwithstanding a significant Pennine presence ('twas a club championship counter for them), our four hardy Carshare Leaguers managed to come home with the team spoils, following fine runs by an ever improving Dave Lund, a swiftly recuperating John Hunt (complete with prominent scar), and an understatedly consistent Ralph Skrimshire. Your correspondent - whose placing was luckily immaterial to the team prize - was simply pleased to be along for the ride on a cool and overcast day. Conditions made running pretty good in the round, with only occasional thoughts of donning an extra layer, and going good to firm underfoot.
Yr Aran is one of a three race winter series sponsored by the local lamb butchers, and the lamb baps both smelled and tasted very fine (for the meat eaters amongst us at least). So good in fact that Dave almost, but not quite, broke his year long adventure in vegetarianism. Also present was our erstwhile compatriot Matt Hulley, looking reasonably lean and mean for a man so lurv-struck. His conversion to the red, yellow and black of Pennine is so complete, it appears, that he was keen to shift his rarely worn DP hoody to anyone prepared to take it off his hands. Free to a good home, I believe, and likely to be passed on at the next convenient opportunity.
