Kinder Springs on Saturday 9th April 2016

After a few fallow years, this this race was resurrected by Glen and myself. After two years of intermittently nagging Dr Calendar, the 40@40 series served up the perfect opportunity for the resurrection. Given that I'm not fast enough to get round the whole course in the light of an evening, I was keen to move the race to a weekend; albeit, what turned out to be crowded one, with the British Championship race in Ireland on the same day and Sheffield half marathon the day after.

It was a little chilly on the start line, but the weather turned out to give a pretty much perfect racing day. Underfoot was sloppy in places, but with very much more grass than may have been seen on the course for any previous running.

Dave Lund carried on with his good form and made use of his continually improving navigation to win against a strong front end of the field. Despite the competition, he was quite some way off the record.

Notable in their absence were Dr Kitchen and Mike Nolan. Willy obviously felt that, after previous experience of the race, the possibility of getting lost, crag-bound – or worse still, beaten by me (on that score he was pretty safe) was just too high to justify the outing. The course is one that Mike would have delighted in. He must have had some very pressing issues that prevented his attendance.
