Warts' Revenge on Sunday 26th November 2017

A slightly disappointing 13 runners turned out this year to run The Warts Revenge, which was by far the best conditions I've ever run it. Nice & sunny with a gentle breeze. As we all set off the packs spilt into two taking different routes through the quarries, which the leading pack took a longer route than the back markers. The field spread out across Burbage Moor towards Burbage Bridge and down onto Burbage Brook. A few bad lines finding the start of the bottom of the plummet now the trees have gone. I was caught using the wrong gate down to Mitchell Fields. But it is my race now.

Everyone took the direct route up Callow Bank, no easy running up the track now, on to the Cowperstone and then across to Stanage Pole. Back to the finish via Rudd Hill with no navigation needed. Everyone came in with a happy face & got changed to go to the pub. With only two runners still out I sat in a chilly car waiting. The familiar figure of Moz came trotting into sight & what a sight I got as he got changed. That just left one more runner, new member Duncan Rance on his first Warts Revenge. That growing feeling of concern began to grow as time past, only to be interrupted by an unusual ping on my phone. Duncan had only stopped at Stanage Pole and dug his phone out, gone through Facebook, found me on the Dark Peak Facebook site and sent me a message that he was fine, don't wait for I might see you in the pub. I shot off to the Norfolk Arms to give out a grand selection of prizes as so few people turned up everyone got more than one piece of useless crap which was gratefully received. Even Duncan arrived in time to receive his.
