Notes
Start:- Fairholmes. Don't underestimate this! A marvellous established race, but it's hard, lots of heavy rough going, high, so catching any bad weather, with the threat of dangerous stream crossings. Logic demands that if the first crossing of Abbey Brook is worrying, then the lower one will be much worse. If in any doubt, avoid it by dropping down to the dam. Full kit essential, map, whistle and compass.
Go beneath the dam wall, various ways up Hollin Clough and paths to CP1 - Lost Lad, 192914.
Head off N. to join the path and cross the stream/torrent at 197923. There are paths past the Wet Stones to CP2 - Margery Hill Trig, 189957.
Head W. to join the Cut Gate path to CP3 , the stream crossing at 173953. Climb steeply to hit a fence on the rim, follow the fence to CP4, the only gate around, approx 175947.
Over open ground and drop to CP5, the little reservoir in Howden Clough, 177935. Over again, cross Abbey Brook without swimming, to CP6, the cabin in Cogman Clough, 185922.
The last CP7 comes easily, hard to describe. It's a little pond just in the woods, around 176907. You drop into the woods, go along a bit and it comes. Then find a way home.
