Race 13 of the Sprunce, the first running of Route 4 that visits the lofty summit of Rud Hill, attracted a field of 23 runners, several of whom ran it twice. It can be run in either direction and clockwise seems to have been more popular. There were various reports of navigational challenges, my favourite being Emma Mavin’s account of inadvertently reversing The Wart’s Revenge race route by taking the trod due west from Rud Hill. Fortunately, she didn’t make it quite as far as Stanage Pole. The fastest race times were late entries from young guns Sally Fawcett (44:49) and Kev Saville (43:30) with John Webber winning the Handicap for the third week in a row.
Race 14 over the same course is already open and can be run in either direction.
