Sun 3rd Nov 2019 11:00amDPFR raceWarts' Revenge

Annual pilgrimage across Rud Hill via, or rather under, Burbage Bridge, up the Plummet, over Higger, down to the Mitchell Field finger post, up Callow Bank (all the way to top please), across to the Cowper Stone, wet feet to Stanedge Pole (new and improved), then homeward along the routinely bleak Friar's Ridge to Rud Hill (again), and by one of a number of lines through the quarries to the finish. Post-race liquids in the Norfolk Arms to celebrate our survival. Electrical prizes this year, it is to be hoped, will be provided oncemore from the Alladin's Cave that is Austin's cellar. Austin is RO - he says "all hecklers will be disqualified" so I'd keep the complaints to a minimum.

Not much climb, but that is more than made up for by the rough and wet terrain - and as last year's participants fully demonstrated, surprisingly easy to mess up the lines too. A race which should not to be underestimated by the uninitiated. Full FRA kit and mobile phone recommended. Starts at the access point on Ringinglow Road. See link for location of controls.

Sat 7th Dec 2019 3:00pmOtherBradfield Christmas Score

90 minute score event visiting the Bradfield Parish Council Christmas trees. Start/finish chez Groom (Kris and Wendy), the ROs, with mulled wine and nibbles afterwards. Fancy dress 'not compulsory', but best bring a headtorch and reflective clothing as the race runs through dusk, finishing in the dark. The ROs allege that optimum routes will involve 'some interesting off-road sections' (which could be avoided) and 'pretty big hills' (which can't). Format similar to Urban Nights, 'but with a scruffier garage'. Please contact email Kris in advance if you want to take part.

Following map is from last year which I assume should still be valid. The grooms may throw in some surprises on the day to mix things up a bit.

Map and control descriptions to print (The circles appear to be a shadow of themselves in Preview on the Mac but are good in Acrobat reader).

Weekly club training/social run. These will either be trail or road runs. We will endeavour to publish trail runs a few days in advance on facebook and on this calendar entry and the route will hopefully include a fast/long version and a medium/shorter version both with leaders. If no trail run is published here then assume a road run but its certainly worth bringing trail shoes and a head torch/suitable kit just in case. Sat 1st Feb 2020 9:30amDPFR raceMargery Hill

The quintessential dark peak race. Lovely running in the heart of the peak district, lovely that is, if you like leaping over vegetation.

RO Andy Harmer. This is a long early season winter outing. Although enjoyable it is challenging (and unmarshalled); the race has been run for 33 years and in that time has been shortened, abandoned as well as survived. There is only one unambiguous hazard - Abbey Brook, which can be a trickle or a torrent. If in doubt do not cross, or seek support. Full FRA kit as a minimum, but add extra layers according to conditions - and come prepared to utilise map, compass and whistle as appropriate. All runners must sign in at the start and declared themselves at the finish, even if they've dropped out mid-race. If you hit trouble on the course, generally best to head west for the reservoir path.

The revised route for 2019 is now confirmed as

  • Cp1 lost lad as usual
  • Cp2 wet stones 193938
  • Cp3 cogman cabin as usual
  • Cp4 Hancock pond as usual
Start/finish top carpark with 3 starts: 8:45, 9:15, 9:30

Sat 7th Dec 2024 9:30amDPFR raceNorth Grain There and Back

Graham Berry's one-off 70th birthday race was such a gem that the webmaster and calendar agreed in the pub immediately following that we cannot let Graham's 80th pass without a repeat running.  With a winning time on a fine day in December 2014 of 2hrs 15mins, and some stalwarts taking over 3 hours, the 9am start certainly needs retaining for the increasingly more mature.  As to other arrangements - all in good time, folks, all in good time.
