Wed 7th Oct 2020 7:00pmDPFR raceHunter Wreck Race

The annual tour into the unknown will take place on October the 7th, with the first small((slower) group off at 6-45,with other small groups at 7 and 7-15, there are not usually more than 20 runners so folk can separate out at the start in between those suggested start times if necessary. Full FRA kit essential plus torch, spare batteries, bivvy bag, spare top recommended.

Start - fell gate (243925); CP1 - New Cross (rems of, 215927); CP2 - Hunter Wreck (208943, or SK2085594342 to be more precise); CP3 Emlin Trig (240934); Finish at fell gate (243925, as per start).

The recommended line back from the wreck follows the 'corridor route', which crosses Hobson Moss Dike (220938) via Tom's 'better than some' ruin (220940), the rocks on Wet Slack and the Wet Slack Ridge. Running down the Dukes road and using the tarmac road is only for those baling out !

Hopefully we can go to the Strines Inn afterwards.

Sun 18th Oct 2020 11:59pmDPFR raceThree Tops TT

With the kind permission of race inventor Ian Winterburn, this is the Time Trial version of his Three Tops race that is usually run in December.

2020-09-24--Three-Tops-start-finnish.jpg

Start at the gate where Low Moor Lane, Thickswood Lane and Stocks Lane all meet.

CP's 1 and 5 - bend in track at SK 20860 99516

CP's 2,3 and 4 - are the summits of Margery Hill SK 18911 95695, Outer Edge SK 17704 96976 and Pike Low SK 20905 97367 which can be visited in any order.

Take great care not to fall into the notorious Bog Monster, which lurks on the trod between Cut Gate and Outer Edge at SK 18275 96530. Do so and you may never be seen again, although you may be remarkably well preserved for several centuries!

This is a Time Trial. You may run: solo, as a household group, or with one other runner (whilst ensuring a distance is kept to 2m at all times).
Please note: you must be self-sufficient on the hill. Consider conditions and options for self rescue in the event of an accident.

14 y.o. to 16 y.o. may participate with an accompanying adult. 16 to 17 y.o. may participate solo or with an adult. It is important to recognise that this is not a marshalled race. Self-sufficiency of the group is required in all feasible circumstances.

Carry all that you will need to stay safe. FRA kit is a minimum - but quite possibly short of what you will really need to stay warm if you have to stop running.

The 7 day window to run the race is Monday 12th October to Sunday 18th October. Times to jim.paxman [at] blueyonder.co.uk by mid day Monday 19th October.

Sun 25th Oct 2020 11:59pmDPFR raceTour de Bradfield Moors

A new race taking in Emlin and Back Tor Trigs followed by a trot down Foulstone Road and Bradfield Dale.

The Start and finish can be at any of the three road crossings:

At track junction with Mortimer Road before the descent to the Strines dam - SK 22704 90904. There's a decent amount of roadside parking.

At track junction heading up from Dale Road, after the climb up from the Dale Dike dam - SK 24639 92035. Roadside parking usually available.

At the track junction with Mortimer Road at the start of the climb towards Emlin Trig - SK 24382 92572. There's not much parking hereabouts.

CP1 Emlin Trig SK 23985 93366

CP 2 Back Tor Trig SK 19766 90988

CP 3 Bridge below Strines Reservoir SK 23331 90626

CP 4 Bridge below Dale Dike Reservoir SK 24582 91813.

Mortimer Road is strictly out of bounds on the way between Emlin and Back Tor Trigs. However, you can run up Mortimer Road from its junction with Foulstone Road to the top of the track that drops down towards the Strines Reservoir dam.

Graham Berry's one-off 70th birthday race was such a gem that the webmaster and calendar agreed in the pub immediately following that we cannot let Graham's 80th pass without a repeat running.  With a winning time on a fine day in December 2014 of 2hrs 15mins, and some stalwarts taking over 3 hours, the 9am start certainly needs retaining for the increasingly more mature.  As to other arrangements - all in good time, folks, all in good time.
