Sun 29th Sep 2019 9:30amJunior RunCrookstone Crashout Juniors

The classic Dark Peak race route: Rowlee Bridge, Crookstone Knoll, Trig, Crookstone Knoll and finish back at the bridge.

Minimum age for the classic course is 13 (on the day). Dark Peak Juniors also invite Seniors to participate, not least to see if Tom or one of the speedy young women can set new records in the parched late summer conditions, but also so that newer members can run a club race without fear of getting lost.

There will be shorter, up and down courses for younger age categories.

We could do with a nominated organiser.

This will need to be fully marshalled and with a sweeper. So there will be a need for volunteers on the hill.

Wed 2nd Oct 2019 7:00pmDPFR raceHunter Wreck Race

Wreck hunting at night, what fun! early starts 18:40 for the less whippet-like, 19:00 for anyone else. if you are not experienced at running by yourself in the dark in potentially foul weather, then consider pairing up with someone else or not coming. Full FRA kit, essential plus torch, spare batteries, bivvy bag, spare top recommended.

I've not heard anything from andy, so I'm assuming the route is the same as previously:

Start - fell gate (243925); CP1 - New Cross (rems of, 215927); CP2 - Hunter Wreck (208943, or SK2085594342 to be more precise); CP3 Emlin Trig (240934); Finish at fell gate (243925, as per start).

For reasons known only to Andy, the Dukes Drive is out of bounds east of Flint Hill. The recommended line back from the wreck follows the 'corridor route', which crosses Hobson Moss Dike (220938) via Tom's 'better than some' ruin (220940), the rocks on Wet Slack and the Wet Slack Ridge

Weekly club training/social run. These will either be trail or road runs. We will endeavour to publish trail runs a few days in advance on facebook and on this calendar entry and the route will hopefully include a fast/long version and a medium/shorter version both with leaders. If no trail run is published here then assume a road run but its certainly worth bringing trail shoes and a head torch/suitable kit just in case. There are more details on the website link for newcomers.

Sat 1st Feb 2020 9:30amDPFR raceMargery Hill

The quintessential dark peak race. Lovely running in the heart of the peak district, lovely that is, if you like leaping over vegetation.

RO Andy Harmer. This is a long early season winter outing. Although enjoyable it is challenging (and unmarshalled); the race has been run for 33 years and in that time has been shortened, abandoned as well as survived. There is only one unambiguous hazard - Abbey Brook, which can be a trickle or a torrent. If in doubt do not cross, or seek support. Full FRA kit as a minimum, but add extra layers according to conditions - and come prepared to utilise map, compass and whistle as appropriate. All runners must sign in at the start and declared themselves at the finish, even if they've dropped out mid-race. If you hit trouble on the course, generally best to head west for the reservoir path.

The revised route for 2019 is now confirmed as

  • Cp1 lost lad as usual
  • Cp2 wet stones 193938
  • Cp3 cogman cabin as usual
  • Cp4 Hancock pond as usual
Start/finish top carpark with 3 starts: 8:45, 9:15, 9:30

Its stretching the definition of landmark a bit but hopefully the rag on a stick will still be there.

Anyone new to bashing through brambles in the dark should probably go and do something more pleasurable.

Sat 7th Dec 2024 9:30amDPFR raceNorth Grain There and Back

Graham Berry's one-off 70th birthday race was such a gem that the webmaster and calendar agreed in the pub immediately following that we cannot let Graham's 80th pass without a repeat running.  With a winning time on a fine day in December 2014 of 2hrs 15mins, and some stalwarts taking over 3 hours, the 9am start certainly needs retaining for the increasingly more mature.  As to other arrangements - all in good time, folks, all in good time.
