Margery Hill

Club races that appear in the calendar are primarily organised for the benefit of our members and are not normally open to non members. It is recommended that non-members who are interested in joining Dark Peak come along to one of our club runs in the first instance.
Date and Time: Saturday 1st February 2020, 9:30am
Event type: DPFR race
Gridref: SK172893
Distance and climb: 12mi, 3000ft
League(s): Dark Peak Races League
Notes:

Not the Margery Race!

After 35 years the race will not go to Margery Hill, but to the slightly higher point of High Stones. The start reverses the previous finish route as far as Howden Pond.

RO Andy Harmer. This is a long early season winter outing. Although enjoyable it is challenging (and unmarshalled); the race has been run for 34 years and in that time has been shortened, abandoned as well as survived. There is only one unambiguous hazard - Abbey Brook, which can be a trickle or a torrent. If in doubt do not cross, or seek support. Full FRA kit as a minimum, but add extra layers according to conditions - and come prepared to utilise map, compass and whistle as appropriate. All runners must sign in at the start and declared themselves at the finish, even if they've dropped out mid-race. If you hit trouble on the course, generally best to head west for the reservoir path.

The revised route for 2020 is now confirmed as:

  • CP1 Hancock Wood pond SK176907
  • CP2 Cogman cabin SK185921
  • CP3 Howden pond SK178935
  • CP4 High Stones (top) SK188944 (548 spot height)
  • CP5 Gravy cabin SK190929
  • CP6 Wood/wall junction SK181903

Start/finish Fairholmes top carpark SK172893, with 3 starts: 8:50, 9:10, 9:30
Andy
