It's perhaps a further symptom of my general busyness that I've managed to overlook (and miss) the pre-entry deadline for next Sunday's (7th Oct) Pentland Skyline (the last counter in this year's Carshare League). Unless I can wangle a last minute entry therefore, Jim Paxman may very well be the sole Dark Peaker racing valiantly against the clock to overhaul Greg Rimmer for the much coveted Stanton Colts Reserves trophy.
Be that as it may, I'm pleased to note that we have a new winner of the coffee pot (possibly the most tasteful DP trophy in the cabinet), and I will be making efforts to lure the recipient over to the dinner this year to collect their spoils.
In the meantime, I'm conscious I've not been doing a very good job over the past year or two of rallying the carshare troops, so am now in search of a volunteer to take over the (distinctly pleasurable) task of organising and promoting the league going forward.
Doesn't require a great deal of effort, but it does give you the opportunity to pick some fine races in far-away places that you fancy a stab at yourself - plus the motivation to have a go at the (non-English) British Championships races. I'm happy to hand over my list of 'category A and other top races we've not done yet', and Carshare himself (the ever young Dave Tait, for those of you who don't know), is always ready and willing with a suggestion or two.
The organising role also, of course, comes with the (rather tentative) right to stand up and be insulted and insulting (in equal measure, naturally at the prize giving at the club dinner each year.
So if you fancy turning your hand to this, please email
