Roger Baumeister sent me this short review of Beyond The Dark Peak, a selection of mountain writing from DPFR member Kevin Borman
Kevin Borman is a long standing DPFR member and has written extensively for the outdoor publications about walking, fell running and mountaineering . This book is a collection of previously published work but unless you read the pieces originally the 400 pages are a really good book and well worth the £10. Myself, Alan Yates, Mick Poulter and his brother have some copies of the book .
and then the author himself sent some more details:
Beyond The Dark Peak is a selection of mountain writing from DPFR member Kevin Borman, most of it previously published in a wide range of magazines and journals. The author was particularly active with DPFR in the late 1980s and early 1990s and a number of Dark Peak runners and races feature in the book. The book is a paeon of praise to the hills and an acknowledgement to the friends with whom the author has shared mountain experiences. There is prose and poetry, reminiscence and reflection, but also lots of description, from 'an ordinary guy with the mountain bug. Not a high flier, just an enthusiast bringing together tales of hill-walking, trekking, wild camping and fell-running, in the process of exploring wild places throughout Britain and much further afield.' Perhaps the greatest pleasure is to be in the hills with a companion, whether that's a stroll up to an easy summit, an ‘eyeballs out' mountain marathon, a peerless clear day on a snowy winter peak or a night camping wild in the great beyond in a howling storm. It is those things that this mountain memoir captures. The book runs to 400 pages as a paperback and has a detailed index. It’s also available as an e-book for Kindle (though without the index in this format). You can get a copy locally for just £10 from DPFR members Alan Yates, Roger Baumeister and Mick Poulter. It’s also available from Amazon, by ordering via your local bookshop (the ISBN is 978-1-78876-874-0) and from the publishers FeedaRead via this link: https://www.feedaread.com/search/books.aspx?keywords=Beyond%20The%20Dark%20Peak
