This year with a snow less Bleaklow and even better weather, Mick Sercombe (White Peak) cut 48 minutes from his time to win again in 7h 24m. The second and third place were also under 8 hours. Dick Pasley and Roger Baumeister cut almost 2 hours off last year\'s time and Jan Cave\'s excellent time made her third lady. Ninety six completed the 50 miles and fifty two (of whom Jeff Harrison was a comfortable joint first) completed 35 miles. Brian Hamey, who was a joint winner of the 50 last year popped up here and there to support his wife though some say he was just doing a proper recce for next year!
This user friendly challenge is excellently organised. Competitors are NICE to each other (joint winners, advice on routes etc.) and the volunteer army of Raynet, St. John\'s and YHA wardens and staff are helpful, cheerful and relaxed. Jon Cant deserves congratulations for his organisational efforts. He did not find his task too burdensome, however, to make time to lay on a mini bus to the pub and back exclusively for Dark Peak.
Steve Barfoot used the event as a recovery run after a 2:20 something London marathon six days previously, finishing in an easy 10h 52m.
