This was the third time that I have completed the Hayfield series. Unfortunately, in the Kinder Downfall race I made a slight navigational error in the low cloud and went too far left of South near Kinderlow. Luckily a hiker told me that the buildings I could see were in Barber Booth so I only lost about half an hour. This put me near to bottom in the series, a position I consistently held for the rest of the year.
The Lantern Pike race was my favourite. The race itself is nothing special but the day out is excellent with all the usual country show attractions like clog dancing, sheep dog trials, beer tent with armchairs made out of bales of straw and a display of rare breeds. The best of these were the pigs that looked like their skin had grown quicker than their bodies or they had run into a wall at speed. I entered the home grown produce section again and won third place for the size of my marrow and the shape of my onions was commented upon.
