A cool overcast evening replaced the usual sunshine for this, the World's oldest fell race. Despite requests for recent times on the entry forms and dire warnings about harsh handicaps for those with insufficient evidence to support their case, the new handicapper produced some strange start times and the field finished more strung out than usual. Perhaps because of strong connections with Hallamshire, Dark Peaker's generally got fair handicaps. Phil Crowson sportingly told the organisers that his was too generous and got put back by 2 minutes (though he would only have finished 5th off his original handicap). Only Jim Fulton and, particularly, Tony Trowbridge were harshly treated. Tony was accompanied at the back of the field by Ed Hutt whose entry had been 'lost in the post' and was made to start off scratch. Ex Dark Peaker, Rob Pearson, took fastest time with Micah Wilson (not on the official start list, 2nd fastest and Billy Minto an excellent 3rd fastest, 6th overall. John Norman had an excellent run to not only finish 14th overall but take 1st V50 prize and be fastest V55 whilst Graham Berry was fastest V45 (and 3rd fastest V40). Earlier in the womens event (a straight scratch race) Dark Peak fought it out at the front with Clare beating Jackie by 15 seconds.
