Alport on Wednesday 17th August 2011

The record turnout two years ago of 45 runners was upped to 48 this year in the race’s 26th running.  It was good to hear so many people commenting on how good the course is – shame I couldn’t join you this year.

Neil and Dave had a good race at the front with Neil desperately trying to get near the record but despite a valiant effort, still 2.25 down.  I think the climb up the forest break maybe a little slower and maybe the route along the fence at the start but sub 61 should still be possible.  And no pertex bids this year – shame.

The midges were out in force again so it was good that I didn’t have to wait around for too many at the finish.  Beer and jam was handed out to the winners who made it to the pub.

Records

Men: Al Landels 60:25 current course (20secs quicker)

Tim Tett 60:40 old course,

Vet 40: Andy Harmer 60:43 old course

Vet 50: Tim Tett 68:59

Women: Kirsty Bryan-Jones 81.22

I've often wondered if it was worth heading further left than normal out of the woods to pick up easier running round the edge - well now I know. Fortunately Tom's excellent route at the start compensated somewhat.
