Broomhead Chase on Sunday 13th July 2014

Always a good little blast, and a pleasant carnival with brass band and tug o'war.  A win for Josh, tailing Andy Swift until making a decisive break on the final climb from the river.  A route change on the way out and back to accommodate a change of field for the sheepdog trials took a minute or two off the times - or it would have done for about half the field had they not taken a variety of wrong turns.  On this rarest of occasions, your correspondent kept to the flagged path throughout, as did Josh, but many others - Neil N included - did not.  The result of the day however was the tug o'war victory for the fellrunners eight, comprising Nick Cable as anchor, a number of Penistone's finest, the odd ringer from Calder Valley, and our very own Eoin Connaughton.  At about half the average weight of most of their opponents, an impressive victory indeed.
