Of the twelve races that were selected for this year's Carshare League, Saturday’s Old Crown Round was the one that I most wanted to run and it certainly lived up to my expectations. Starting and finishing outside the Old Crown in Hesket Newmarket (a very fine watering hole and well worth the drive in its own right) at the north-eastern tip of the Lake District, the check points were on the summits of Carrock Fell, Blencathra, Skiddaw, Knott and High Pike but with no fixed routes between any of them, resulting in more route choice than I have ever come across in an FRA race. All in all, a race that I strongly commend to any fellrunner to have on their CV.
