Burbage Nutters on Saturday 4th January 2020

Once again the weather was kind to us with good visibility ensuring no problems were encountered over the delectable bogs of Rud Hill. The three separate start times worked well with everyone finishing approx within 15 minutes of each other. There was a close finish of only 1 min between the first three runners, with Tim Rutter 10 secs in front of Richard Bradbury and Simon Mills close behind. It was good to see a new member to our club, Emily Suddes, enter for this illustrious race. As Emily wasn’t familiar with the area, especially the nasty Rud Hill section, she set off with local expert Keith Holmes. This was not only for navigation but to also learn the advanced, finer skills of fell running. Emily hung on and finished just 18 secs behind Keith. Congratulations to Rob Moore for not only finishing before the prize giving this year, but more importantly from the right direction. Dave Taylor arrived late to defend his trophy and missed the start of the race – by 24 hours. Alan Yates came to see his offspring start the race but went to the wrong car park. He seems to insist he was indeed at the correct car park, so perhaps we all imagined the race.

Trophies were difficult to work out with older runners winning younger categories. However, if the following role of honour appears less than correct, let me know your version as I have a spare Walnut/Testicle Trophy, along with a Nutcracker Trophy courtesy of Dave turning up on the wrong day.
