The race's namesake has unfortunately retired from partaking in his self made classic and hence, to avoid losing one of the winters best outings, a new RO was sought. Unfortunately the replacement RO took ill on the Friday before the race and felt he was in no fit condition to run. A number of brave competitors did venture out in wild conditions with sleet and lots of icy meltwater making the bogs nice and tasty. Dr Sykes, never a man to be deterred, ran out of petrol on route and then survived a slalom ride between abandoned cars on the drive past Higgar. A man, like myself at times, who seems to live a more eventful life than intended.
Mr Brunt put in a fine performance and took the honours on the day. However, congratulations must also go to newcomer Ishmael who, in his own words 'did the birthday run and survived'.
